Air Design Vivo 2
About the Air Design Vivo 2
The Air Design Vivo 2 is the second generation of Air Design's mid-B all-rounder — 49 cells, 5.38 flat aspect ratio, six sizes covering 50–135 kg, EN B certified (also DGAC-registered for paramotor use). Released for the 2023 season, four years after the original Vivo, and aimed squarely at intermediate pilots developing the confidence and skills to thermal and start XC.
The aerofoil is identical to the lightweight LiVi sibling — same handling, same character — but built in heavier materials (Skytex 27 double-coated 29 g/m² and 20D), with curved plastic rods in the nose, and fully sheathed lines for easy ground handling and pre-flight by less-experienced pilots. The stabilo cells are curved slightly upwards into a winglet shape, which Air Design say enlarges projected aspect ratio, improves directional stability and cuts drag. Take-off behaviour is textbook in all conditions — the wing inflates and sits above the pilot's head cleanly, even with backwind or gusty thermal launches. In thermals it has enough agility to learn precise piloting once you give it weight-shift, and enough dampening to stay calm and inspire trust as conditions strengthen — pilots and reviewers often note the wing "smooths out the bumps" while still climbing efficiently. Riser layout is identical to the LiVi: 12 mm webbing risers with a B/C steering system on a wooden bar (Air Design's explicit choice — they want pilots to learn rear-riser control on their entry-level wing as preparation for higher classes, and as a backup if a brake line fails). Brake handles have padding and a swivel. Big ears are textbook and efficient; deep spirals generate notably low G-forces.
Strengths
- 49-cell, 5.38 AR all-rounder with textbook take-off behaviour and forgiving thermal feel
- Wooden-bar B/C steering system unusual for entry EN B — useful progression tool for higher classes
- Stabilo winglet cells improve directional stability and cut drag
- Six sizes covering 50–135 kg — including XL up to 135 kg (LiVi tops out at 120 kg)
- Sheathed lines on heavier cloth — durable, easy to sort, tolerates day-to-day handling
- DGAC-registered for paramotor use — usable with motor on certified weight ranges
