BGD Epic 2

The BGD Epic 2 is BGD's low-B step-up wing — 45 cells, 5.2 flat aspect ratio, five sizes covering 55–125 kg, EN/LTF B certified. Reassuring enough for low-airtime pilots stepping out of school, with handling and performance experienced pilots can still appreciate. Trim 39 km/h, top 53 km/h, quoted best glide 9.5 and minimum sink 1 m/s.

Vs. the original Epic, launch behaviour is the obvious upgrade — the wing comes up smoothly and easily without overshoot, useful both for new pilots and for tighter mountain take-offs. In the air it's 1 km/h faster at trim, 3 km/h faster at top speed, with better glide overall. Climb is a notable strength, particularly in weak lift. Long brake travel makes it very hard to accidentally stall or spin the wing, but the brakes are still precise — direct, playful handling rather than a dampened low-B feel. Reassuring in strong air without hiding the bumps: BGD's explicit philosophy is that the wing should tell the pilot about conditions clearly so they can anticipate and avoid collapses, rather than masking everything until something fails. The 3/4/3 main-line layout is unusual — three A risers, four B risers, three C — and the risers carry a B/C steering system (same approach as the Base 2) so pilots can steer effectively while pushing the speed bar.
